About me, and my breeding practices
I am a long-time reptile hobbyist and breeder in the sand county region of central Wisconsin. I've kept reptiles since the early 1990s, starting with a green iguana -- a very poor choice of captive for a novice keeper, as I soon discovered -- that was with me for over twenty years.
I keep a small but very diverse collection, and tend to prefer 'wild-type' animals rather than captive morphs or designer animals. I am drawn to reptiles to learn about their outward biology and cryptic inner lives. You can see some of my breeders on the 'collection' page.
I take wildlife trafficking and other illegal trade very seriously, and take pains to ensure that my involvement in herpkeeping does not promote or support illegal trade.
I also prioritize the health of my collection. All incoming animals are quarantined and each receives individual PCR and other screening for pathogens relevant to the species before entering the collection. Disinfection of enclosures, materials, tools and hands takes place between animals, as do strict biosafety procedures such as not cohabitating different reptile/amphibian species for any reason.
